He reminded the house that we will be electing a new national leadership of the church on Saturday (i.e. 19th October, 2024). Turning to substantive issues plaguing humanity such as wars, famine, poverty and moral decadence which have risen to levels that supersede all times, his opinion was that the church carries the solution to these challenges.
He said the answer proffered by the leadership of the church is encapsulated by the theme “Grace for greater works”, noting that grace can change even the most terrible person. Such grace can only be given by God and we must receive it to be able to dispense it.
He prescribed the following to be the true way of exhibiting the flow of God’s grace through us: generosity, the willingness to do more for others; respecting the dignity of life and work; taking action to bring about positive change; being compassionate and showing concern for others; and, taking inspiration from the Holy Spirit who energises and strengthens us to keep going.
He said Underpinning all these is humility which engenders God’s greater grace in our lives. He called on conference to focus attention on the youth and the children to draw them into ministry. In conclusion, he urged those who will leave office and the incoming officers to work together for a smooth transition. He prayed for fruitful deliberations and a peaceful election.
